New Life For Bedraggled Dog Who Finds Love At Shelter

See what happens when love wins, for one matted, bedraggled dog who was given a second chance. The photo will make you smile.

WADING RIVER, NY — It was a happy ending for Pound Cake, a four-year old Labradoodle that was brought to the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton heavily matted — in some places, all the way down to the skin.

"When that happens, the animal is in pain because the twisted fur pulls on the skin and lesions develop over time," Kent Animal Shelter staff said.

The first thing that needed to be done was to shave Pound Cake to get rid of the matted hair.

"Our friend, Jennifer, at TLC Pet Grooming and Day Spa in Wading River, generously volunteered to give Pound Cake a new coiffure and a spa day. At the end of the day, Pound Cake returned to the shelter sporting a new look. She was so happy that her tail did not stop wagging and the back scratches sent her over the moon," the post said.

The lesions will heal quickly but the best news for Pound Cake was that she has a new and forever home.
