'Not So Sweet' Anti-Valentine's Day Fundraiser Helps Homeless Cats
One local LI rescue group came up with a way for jilted hearts to show their claws, and raise funds for homeless cats at the same time.

AQUEBOGUE, NY — If Valentine's Day looks grim and your heart is broken, and nothing seems better than showing your claws and taking a swipe at an ex — or your ex's new date — the North Fork County Kids Animal Rescue & Preservation Through Pedagogy has a fundraiser for you.
The rescue group has created the "Not So Sweet" fundraiser where, for a $5 donation, they'll scrawl the name of your nemesis on, well, a kitty's litter box. It can be anyone with whom you're ready for a cat fight — even your in-laws, said Virginia Scudder, the founder of the group.
It's all meant in good fun and the proceeds will help Scudder with her mission of helping to trap and neuter feral felines, as well as find furrever homes for cats who have none. The photos will be posted on the rescue's Facebook and Instagram pages. Last year, the group went live for the fun.

Her organization also focuses on education, Scudder said.
