Residents are advised to take necessary arrangements to get where they are going as quickly as possible
Officials also advised residents to get home early if you can and be prepared to shelter in place as we are looking at a massive snow removal operation that will take days.
“If you are not an emergency employee, please stay off the roads tonight and tomorrow to allow our Department of Public Works to attempt to clear our roadways,” Bellone wrote on the Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone Facebook page.
Officials have already begun pre-treating our roadways in anticipation of this major weather.
The Department of Public Works has over 20,000 tons of salt on hand and we will be dispersing salt throughout the next 24 hours.
The County has access to over 250 pieces of snow removal equipment to plow county roads.
The equipment will be used to clear snow and debris from more than 1,600 lane miles that the County is responsible for.
There will also be contractors that are assisting in snow removal, and are being given portable GPS devices to track in real time the progress we are making on the roads.
