On Labor Day, Unsung Heroes Man Posts

It's Labor Day, and we want to hear from the men and women working while the nation barbecues and kicks back. Are you working today? Tell us about your job in the comments section.

Labor Day, which was officially first celebrated in 1894, is a national holiday meant to celebrate workers across the United States -- the everyday folks who toil diligently year-round at jobs to keep the country safe and productive.

In his book, "Working," Studs Terkel interviewed all kinds of normal people and asked them how they feel, about the work they do. Farmers and telephone operators, flight attendants and street cleaners, waitresses and strip miners - -and all kinds of workers who serve faithfully at jobs that all too often go unnoticed and ignored -- all raised their voices and gave honest and heartachingly real oral histories about the jobs that keep a nation humming and alive.

And on Labor Day, while most of the nation barbecues and hits the beach, there are scores of diligent men and women -- doctors and emergency medical technicians, police and firefighters -- who work round the clock to keep the public safe and cared for. Waitresses continue to feed hungry fun seekers and sales associates toil long hours to keep stores open and satisfy the demands of thousands of back-to-school shoppers.
