RIVERHEAD, NY — There was cause for rejoicing as the Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation received a $10 million gift during its annual gala recently.

PBMC's annual “Benefit in Black & White” was more than just an evening of dinner and dancing in celebration of the hospital — the $10 million gift was presented to the hospital by the chair of Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation’s board of directors Emilie Roy Corey and her husband Michael during the September 13 event at the Westhampton Country Club.

It is the largest gift from an individual that the hospital has received in its history, PBMC said.

The contribution will be utilized to improve access to critical and primary care services and to enhance medical and surgical services at Peconic Bay Medical Center, the release said.

“It is crucial for Peconic Bay Medical Center to be able to continue their important work here on Long Island’s East End, saving the lives and providing state-of-the-art medical treatment each and every day in our community,” Emilie Roy Corey said. “We are greatly touched by the compassionate care and outstanding treatment offered by the wonderful medical professionals associated with the hospital as well as with the dedication of the hospital’s leadership to building a world-class medical institution. This gift will ensure that the groundbreaking care, resources and treatment which the hospital has earned a reputation for providing will continue both now and into the future."

Emilie and Michael Corey are also the founding supporters of Pegasus House Palliative Care at Peconic Bay Medical Center, a release said. Pegasus House, founded in 2009, seeks to ease pain and suffering while providing the best possible quality of life for patients afflicted with chronic or life-limiting illnesses.

"It embraces the patient's family, because not only are family members key to providing care and comfort to the patient, but also they are in need of care and comfort themselves," the release said.

“Emilie and Michael Corey are wonderful supporters of Peconic Bay Medical Center and have played a critical role in the hospital through the years,” Sherry Patterson, chair of the Peconic Bay Medical Center board of directors, said. “Our efforts to bring world-class patient care to all the residents of the East End are made possible through the philanthropy of our generous donors, such as the Coreys. We pride ourselves in building a regional medical center that has transformed our community and addresses the growing population’s need for quality health care. We are truly grateful for this generous gift,” she continued.

Rather than having to travel long distances for expert health care, Peconic Bay Medical Center provides close access to residents living within Suffolk County and eastern Long Island.

“We are extremely thankful for this wonderful gift from the Coreys,” said Andrew J. Mitchell, President and CEO at Peconic Bay Medical Center. “This considerate contribution will make a significant impact on the health and well-being of our community members and will continue to mobilize the passion and mission which Peconic Bay Medical Center has in providing access to comprehensive, state-of the-art health care, resources, technology and treatment to our local residents."
