Pedestrian Airlifted After Being Struck By Minivan: Police
The man was trying to cross Route 58 in Riverhead on foot when he was struck, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A pedestrian suffered a head injury after he was struck by a minivan while trying to cross Route 58 in Riverhead Friday night, police said.
According to Riverhead Police, the incident took place at 7:29 p.m. east of Northville Turnpike, in the vicinity of McDonald's.
Responding officers found Marek Kolota, 48, lying in the roadway with the head wound; Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene and Kolota was subsequently airlifted by Suffolk County Police aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital due to the nature of his injuries, which were serious but non-life threatening, police said.

Kolota was attempting to cross Route 58 on foot, heading north to south, when he was struck in the eastbound lane by Juan Zambrano, 53, of Flanders, who was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan east, police said.
Zambrano remained on the scene and no charges were filed, police said.
