Update: Woman Dies After Being Struck On Route 58 Near Tanger: Police
BREAKING: She was struck by a pickup truck Sunday night; the driver stayed at the scene to render first aid, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A pedestrian has died after being struck by a pickup truck on Route 58 Sunday night, police said.
According to New York State Police, April L. Valera, 47, of Levittown, was struck by the vehicle at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night at the intersection of County Road 58 and Kroemer Avenue in Riverhead.
Preliminary investigation revealed that she was crossing Old Country Road in a southerly direction, when a passing motorist traveling westbound struck the pedestrian, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and rendered first aid, police said.
Valera sustained a serious head injury and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased, police said.

No criminality is suspected, police said.
State Police are requesting that any witnesses that may have observed the collision contact the State Police at (631) 756-3300.
