Photos: 42nd Annual Polish Festival In Full Swing Sunday After Soggy Start Saturday

The event brought crowds to Polish Town in Riverhead Sunday, with many sampling Polish fare and enjoying polka music.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Despite a deluge of rain Saturday, nothing could dampen the spirits of those attending the 42nd Annual Polish Town Civic Street Fair and Festival in Riverhead.

After the rain cleared up Saturday, crowds turned out both Saturday and Sunday for Polish fare, including kielbasa and pierogies, a sea of vendors, carnival rides, and plenty of traditional polka music.

The fair got its start in 1975, after the Polish Town Civic Association organized the event to raise funds. The fair was designed to be reminiscent of those held in Poland, and includes a celebration of Polish heritage, with foods, music, dance — traditional polkas —and a reenactment of a traditional Polish wedding on Pulaski Street. The Polish Festival is always presided over by the Polish Queen.
