Police: Wading River Man Arrested After Sexually Assaulting Woman Behind Bowling Alley

The arrest was made on Thursday at the man's home in Wading River.

A Wading River man was arrested after sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman behind the Wildwood Bowling Alley by the lake at the Wildwood Town Park located at 3939 Lake Avenue in Northampton on Wednesday afternoon, according to Southampton Town Police.

The woman was physically attacked by a man who held a gun to her head, punched and repeatedly hit her, and then attempted to rape her, police said.

The victim was able to fight the man off and call 911, according to police.

Southampton Town Police, New York State Police, New York State Police K-9, and Suffolk County Police helicopters responded to the scene, but the man fled the area before police arrived, police said.

Through subsequent investigation, Southampton Town Police Detectives identified Richard K. Rause, 30, as the assailant, police said.

On Thursday, Rause was located and arrested at his residence in Wading River, according to police.

After being placed under arrest, Rause was handcuffed and placed in the detective’s police vehicle, police said.

A short time later, he exited the vehicle and fled on foot in an attempt to escape, police said.

He was apprehended a few seconds later after a brief struggle, according to police.

Rause was charged with first degree attempted rape, third degree criminal possession of a weapon and second degree escape, police said.
