Residents Applaud New Designer Shoe Warehouse On Rt. 58

Women across Riverhead are doing a collective happy dance over word that a new Designer Shoe Warehouse will be opening in the former Border's building on Route 58.

"I think it will be the greatest day in Riverhead, when that store opens," said Riverhead chief of staff Tara McLaughlin.

"I think I hear angels singing," said resident Donna Giancontieri on Facebook.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter confirmed the new tenant on Tuesday and said it is "just wonderful" that owners of the Riverhead Centre were able to fill the space. "I had spoken to the managers of the shopping complex last year and they assured me that they had tenants for that store, but they wouldn't say who it was. I"m really happy that they have someone as good as DSW as a tenant -- and my staff is very happy, as well," he laughed.

Designer Shoe Warehouse offers designer and brand-name shoes at "fantastic" prices, according to the company's website.

Walter said the exact timeline of when the store would open is unclear.
