Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race Postponed Due To Weather
The race will now take place on Aug. 26.

RIVERHEAD, NY — The 9th Annual Cardboard Boat Race on the Peconic River in Riverhead has been postponed due to Saturday's soggy weather forecast.
The event will now take place at noon on Sunday, Aug. 26. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At the race, newly elected Riverhead Town Supervisor Laura Jens Smith has her sights sets on winning back the trophy from Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman in an annual face off.

“It’s a friendly competition between the two towns that normally work together on many issues,” said Schneiderman. “We have lots of laughs and it’s a great race. I wish her luck.”
Hundreds of paddlers turned out every year for one of Riverhead's most anticipated yearly events. Families, friends, young and old participate in the event, spending months creating their cardboard boats, and then enjoying a day on the water, as well as music, face painting, and food.
