Riverhead Fire Department Alerts Residents To Donation Scam
The Riverhead Fire Department says phone calls are being made by individuals claiming to collect donations on behalf of firefighters, EMS.

RIVERHEAD, NY — The Riverhead Fire Department issued an alert Thursday, warning residents about an ongoing donation scam.
"The Riverhead Fire Department has been made aware of phone calls being made to residents by individuals claiming to collect donations on behalf of local fire and EMS departments," the alert said. "Please be advised that the Riverhead Fire Department does not solicit donations by phone."
Department officials said their only fundraising effort is its annual fund drive conducted by mail.

"If you receive a phone call requesting donations in our name, we ask that you do not provide any personal or financial information," Riverhead Fire Department officials said.
"If you have concerns or questions, please feel free to contact the department directly. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us keep our community safe," the alert said.
