Riverhead High School Wins Prestigious Award

RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead High School has been awarded a prestigious honor — the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's School of Excellence Award for the 2021 to 2022 school year.

To receive the recognition, 75 percent of the high school’s varsity programs had to have a GPA of 90 or above for 75 percent of the team. At Riverhead, 92 percent of the high school’s varsity teams have over a 90 GPA, the district said.

School officials congratulated the teams whose student-athletes helped contribute to earning the award, including cheerleading, boys and girls cross-country, field hockey, football, golf, boys and girls soccer, girls tennis and volleyball, girls basketball, bowling, cheerleading and boys and girls indoor track and field, baseball, girls golf, boys and girls lacrosse, softball, boys tennis and boys and girls outdoor track and field.
