RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead elementary school students took part in the weeklong Great Kindness Challenge recently.

According to the Riverhead Central School District, students at Calverton's Riley Avenue Elementary school participated in special themed days, quotes of the day, and activities of the day — all focused on spreading kindness throughout the school community.

Members of the fourth grade student council, led by adviser Melissa Haupt, also conducted presentations in classrooms throughout the building about community circles. The fourth grade presenters read the book “The Circles All Around Us” by Brad Montague to the classes they visited and then helped students to complete worksheets exploring the different levels of community circles, such as family, friends, extended family and community.
