Riverhead Man Arrested in Riverside for Alleged Car Theft
Man was caught fleeing police in Budget Inn parking lot.

A Riverhead man who stole a car was arrested on Friday morning in Riverside, according to Southampton Police.
Police said that Alfred Cowell, 31, was pulled over around 4:30 on Friday morning after he failed to signal a turn on Lake Avenue. Upon attempting to stop Cowell, he allegedly fled into the parking lot of Budget Host Inn in Riverside, where he was caught.
A registration check determined that the vehicle was stolen. Cowell was arrested for criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony. He was also arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, false personation, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation, making an unsafe turn without a signal, not wearing a seatbelt, and unlicensed operation.

He was held for morning arraignment.
