Riverhead Man Charged With Driving Drunk: Cops

He had an open container in his vehicle, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was busted after he was caught driving drunk with an open container of alcohol, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, Jonathan D. Downing, 54, was arrested on March 9 and charged with driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop for failing to maintain his lane while he was traveling north on Ludlam Avenue.

He was transported back to New York State Police Barracks Riverside where he provided a breath sample of .11% B.A.C., police said.

He is due back at Southampton Justice Court on April 23, police said.
