Riverhead Man Injured in Memorial Day Accident in Calverton: Police

The driver was pinned inside his vehicle, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY - A Riverhead man was injured in Calverton in an accident during which his van struck a tree, police said.

Matthew J. Mileski, 39, was hurt in the crash, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the single-car accident took place Monday morning at 7:39 a.m. on Route 25, just west of 76 Gas Station in Calverton; a caller told police that a van had struck a tree, police said.

Police found a 2001 Ford van against a tree on the north side of the roadway, just east of Francis Boulevard and Route 25, police said, with a man pinned inside.

Riverhead Fire Department extricated Mileski from the vehicle, police said; he was taken by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stony Book Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Police Detective Division was notified and responded, police said; the incident is still under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is requested to contact the Riverhead Detective Division at 631-727-4500.
