Riverhead Native With Breast Cancer In 'Fight Of Her Life'
Her hometown community is rallying to help a woman facing her greatest battle.

RIVERHEAD, NY — The community is rallying for a hometown woman facing her greatest challenge.
A GoFundMe page, "Help Sue Fight Cancer," was created by Ann Raffel of Mattituck to benefit Sue Allen (Callan/Vollmoeller). Sue, the page said, "is in the fight of her life. In October 2019, Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer."
Sue underwent a partial lumpectomy in November and a biopsy was performed; subsequent back pain led to the discovery of Stage 4 cancer — the cancer had metastasized to various areas of her back, ribs, hip and skull bones, the page said.

A graduate of Riverhead High School's Class of 1983, today, "Sue lives near, and is being treated at, the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center of Ohio State University. This internationally renowned breast center offers a full continuum of cancer care in one world-class facility," the page said.
Sue, the page added, "has expensive health expenditures with a large insurance deductible and not everything is covered. She is already in debt and there is no money for any extras, which include exploring other cancer treatments not covered by insurance, as well as traveling to New York to see her family and friends. Please consider opening your hearts and your wallets to help Sue fight cancer and to alleviate some of the monetary stress she is facing and fretting over."
