Riverhead Police Car Involved In Crash: Cops

BREAKING: The police officer's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, authorities said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead police car was involved in a crash Wednesday, authorities said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 12:03 p.m. when a marked Riverhead Police vehicle was involved in a collision involving a second vehicle at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Reeves Avenue in Riverhead.

An investigation conducted at the scene determined that the police vehicle was heading southbound on Roanoke Avenue and was struck on the driver's side by a second vehicle that had entered the intersection from the east side of Reeves Avenue, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle did not report any injuries at the scene, police said.

The male police officer was transported to Stonybrook University Medical Center by Riverhead Ambulance Corps with "non-life threatening injuries," police said.

Both vehicles were impounded and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
