Riverhead School Budget Vote, Board Of Education Race Results In

BREAKING: The public has spoken in Riverhead after the school budget vote Tuesday.

RIVERHEAD, NY — The public has spoken and taken the time to cast their ballots in the Riverhead Central School District budget vote and Board of Education race.

Voters approved the 2017 - 2018 budget of $136,388,547 budget by a vote of 1,419 to 961.

The budget reflects a 4.38 percent increase, and a tax levy increase of 3.77 percent. The budget is tax cap compliant, maintaining district programs, increasing course offerings for secondary students and increasing class size for elementary students.

Five candidates, Christopher J. Dorr, Yolanda M. Thompson, Therese Zuhoski, Gregory John Fischer and Gregory M. Meyer ran for three open seats on the board of education. The winners were Dorr, with 1,559, Meyer, with 1,487, and Zuhoski, with 1,695. Fischer received 727 votes and Thompson, 801.
