Riverhead Town Board Decision Results in Budget Cuts
Operating budget will have to be cut by $2.2 million to make ends meet.

The Riverhead Town Board has voted against both short-term financing in order to plug the town’s projected multimillion dollar budget gap next year and piercing the state-mandated 2 percent property tax cap, Riverhead Local reported.
In order to make ends meet next year without a cap-piercing tax increase, the operating budget will have to be cut by at least $2.2 million.
The cuts will result in the reduction of the town workforce by 25 to 30 people; including salaries, fringe benefits, buybacks, new unemployment expenses and other things Riverhead financial administrator Bill Rothaar told Riverhead Local.
