Riverhead Town Supervisor's Car Stolen: Cops

Her personal vehicle was stolen from her driveway, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead Town Supervisor Laura Jen-Smith's personal vehicle was stolen right from her driveway, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in Sunday at 4:42 a.m. from Jens-Smith, who reported that her personal vehicle had been taken from her driveway on Peconic Bay Blvd. in Laurel.

Police responded and while searching the area, saw the vehicle heading east on Peconic Bay Blvd. by Laurel Lane, police said.

Officers pursued the vehicle, but the unknown driver failed to stop, police said.

The vehicle turned onto Delmar Drive, a dead end roadway, and headed north, exceeding the speed limit, police said.

The vehicle was found unoccupied at the end of Delmar Drive partially off the roadway, police said. A subsequent K-9 track for the suspect led to the Main Road area in Mattituck where the track ended, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division responded; the investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have information is requested to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631)727-4500.
