Riverhead Travel Ban Extended To Tuesday; Schools, Town Offices Closed
Curbside trash pickup has also been canceled, officials say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — As Long Island begins the big cleanup after the Blizzard of 2026, Riverhead officials have extended a townwide travel ban and announced that town buildings will be closed Tuesday.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Jerry Halpin said that due to the "extreme winter weather" impacting the area, all non-essential, non emergency travel has been suspended townwide until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Riverhead schools will also be closed Tuesday, the district announced.

Residential curbside trash pickup scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026 is also canceled. Garbage that would normally be picked up on Tuesday must be put out on the next regular pick-up day.
Halpin, in collaboration with Police Chief Ed Frost and Highway Superintendent Mike Zaleski, will continue to monitor the weather and update town closures, as needed, officials said.
