Riverhead Woman Charged With DWI Had BAC 2X Legal Limit: Cops

She is facing felony charges, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Riverhead woman was cuffed Monday and charged with driving while intoxicated in Southampton, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, Anita Bankowska, 29, of Riverhead was arrested at 6:34 p.m. on Hill Street and charged with two counts of felony DWI; first degree aggravated unlicensed operations, a felony; as well as third degree unlicensed operations and circumventing an interlock device, both misdemeanors.

Her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit to operate a vehicle in New York State, police said.

Officers observed Bankowska operating a 2004 Honda Odyssey while traveling westbound on Hill Street where she was stopped for a vehicle and traffic violation, police said. Upon further investigation, she was placed under arrest, processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
