School Budget Vote In Riverhead Tuesday

Five candidates are running for three open Board of Education seats in Riverhead; residents will vote on a $7.5 million repair reserve fund.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead Central School District voters began heading to cast their votes at 6 a.m. Tuesday on the 2017 - 2018 budget.

The $136,388,547 budget reflects a 4.38 percent increase, and a tax levy increase of 3.77 percent. The budget is tax cap compliant, maintaining district programs, increasing course offerings for secondary students and increasing class size for elementary students.

Voters will be asked to cast their ballots on a proposition to create $7.5 million repair reserve fund.

Five candidates, Christopher J. Dorr, Yolanda M. Thompson, Therese Zuhoski, Gregory John Fischer and Gregory M. Meyer are running for three open seats on the board of education.

Voting will continue through 9 p.m. at four locations.
