Riverhead School Budget Passes Handily With Community Support

Voters weighed in Tuesday on the proposed 2026 to 2027 school budget.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Voters turned out Tuesday to cast their ballots for the Riverhead Central School District's proposed 2026 to 2027 budget — casting their ballots in favor of the spending plan.

The budget passed by a vote of 944 to 841, district officials said.

The proposed $218,880,000 budget reflects a 3.52 percent increase in spending and a tax levy increase of 2.91 percent, which falls within the district's state-mandated tax cap.

In the Board of Election race, incumbents Julio Gonzalez, Erica Murphy and Cynthia Redmond ran against Natasha Cooks and Jasmine Corwin.

Redmond received 1,274 votes, Murphy garnered 1,273 votes, and Corwin received 1,180 votes.

Gonzalez, who had the fourth highest number of votes, with 891, will serve a one-year term after he resignation of board member Brian Connelly, who was replaced by Gonzalez.

Cooks received 869 votes.
