Snow Emergency in Riverhead Town

A snow emergency will be in effect until 6 p.m.

Snow emergency will be in effect in Riverhead Town from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday evening.

During this Snow Emergency, no parking is permitted on either side of any roadway.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean M. Walter has announced that all town facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

In addition, town meetings scheduled for this evening and tomorrow have been canceled as of 4:30 p.m. Monday due to the impending snow:

  • The Town of Riverhead Recreation programs have been canceled this evening and tomorrow due to the impending storm.
  • The Anti-Bias Task Force meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today has also been cancelled.
  • Garbage pickup for Tuesday, January 27 has been suspended. Residents who normally have Tuesday pick-up, can put their trash out on Friday.
  • The Town’s Senior Center will remain open on Monday but will be closed Tuesday.
  • The Town Meals on Wheels program will be delivering extra meals today as deliveries will not be made on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or are occurring.

According to the National Weather Service, falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities later on tonight will lead to whiteout conditions making travel extremely dangerous.

The Supervisor urges all residents to refrain from all unnecessary travel during this storm and reminds them to park off the street to allow crews to remove snow and ice in an efficient manner.
