Storage Building, Multiple Vehicles On Fire In Riverhead: Police

BREAKING: First responders rushed to a dumpster fire behind a Tanger store and found many cars and a storage building ablaze, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A storage building and multiple vehicles were ablaze in Riverhead early Thursday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in at 2:54 a.m. about a dumpster fire behind Suite 401 in the Tanger Outlet Center.

Responding patrol units determined that a storage building and multiple vehicles were on fire at 1794 West Main Street, police said.

The Riverhead Fire Department responded and extinguished the fires, police said.

Several vehicles and equipment were damaged by fire, police added.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded for investigative purposes; the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad was requested to assist with the investigation, police said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation — and no injuries were reported, police said.

The Riverhead fire marshal's office also responded to the scene.
