Student, 14, Arrested After Threatening Mass Harm At LI School: PD

The Calverton teen made the threat on social media, police say.

CALVERTON, NY — A 14-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday night after making a threat of mass harm on social media against the Riverhead Charter School, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, at 9:49 p.m., authorities were notified by Riverhead Charter School officials about a threat against the school on social media. Riverhead Police patrol officers responded to the school and a search of the premises located nothing suspicious or criminal, police said.

An investigation led to an arrest of the teen; he was charged with making a threat of a mass harm, police said. He was processed at Riverhead Police headquarters and released to a parent for a future court date, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department will be present at the Riverhead Charter School on Thursday at the request of Riverhead Charter School officials, police said.
