Student Makes Gun Threat Against Riverhead High School On Social Media: Police

Parents shared a Snapchat post that showed a gun and said "excited for school tm."

RIVERHEAD, NY — A student has been arrested and charged with making a threat against Riverhead High School, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, on Sunday at 9:12 p.m., police were notified by a Riverhead High School student that a fellow student had created a post on social media that could be construed as a threat against fellow students at the school.

Parents turned to social media and shared a post showing the student's Snapchat, which contained the words "excited for school tm" along with a photo of a gun.

An investigation into the matter conducted by the Riverhead Police Department's detective division resulted in the arrest of a male juvenile in the Riverhead area, police said.

The young man was transported to the Riverhead Police Department, charged with one count of making a terrorist threat, processed, and later released to the custody of a parent with a future court date, police said.

Riverhead School officials were notified of the incident; no further information will be released at the present time due to the age of the person involved, police said.
