Suffolk County Announces Options for Veterans to Access Green Key Card for Park and Recreation Use
Veterans can now access a green key card at a discounted rate.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone joined the Department of Parks and Recreation recently to announce that veterans will be able to purchase a green key card at a discounted rate by showing their veterans New York State driver’s license as a form of identification and proof of residency.
According to the Suffolk County website, Green Key Cards allow residents to access automated/internet golf and camping reservation system. They also identifies the holder (except Non Resident card) as a Suffolk County resident and insures reduced fees for park.

Previously, local veterans were required to provide the County’s Park, Recreation and Conservation Department with a DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty).

“We want to provide a more simplified process for our heroes to access our renowned County parks and recreational facilities at an affordable rate,” Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said.
All Suffolk County residents can obtain a green key card to receive discounts for camping, golfing and additional park-related fees at County facilities.

Local veterans can purchase a green key card at a discounted $11 rate.
The County previously expanded a pilot program that made veteran fee reductions at County golf courses permanent.
Veterans who wish to purchase a green key card at the reduced rate can present their veterans state driver’s license and two additional proofs of residency at the following facilities:
- Bergen Point Golf Course in West Babylon
- Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown
- Cathedral Pines County Park in Middle Island
- Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton
- Cupsogue Beach County Park in Westhampton Beach
- Indian Island Campground in Riverhead
- Indian Island Golf Course in Riverhead
- Lake Ronkonkoma
- Montauk
- Sears Bellows County Park in Hampton Bays
- Shinnecock East County Park in Southampton
- Smith Point County Park in Mastic Beach
- Southaven County Park in Brookhaven
- Timber Point Golf Course in Great River
- West Sayville Golf Course
- West Sayville Parks Operations Office.
Additional proofs of residency can include copies of a property tax bill, lease or rental agreement, motor vehicle registration, auto insurance ID card, cable or phone bill, electric or gas bill, credit card bill, library card or voter registration card.
