Teen Steals Car, Leads Cops On High Speed Chase On LIE: Police
The 16 year old was charged with driving the car, stolen from Riverhead, while on drugs, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A 16-year old arrested after a high speed chase on the Long Island Expressway was charged with stealing a car from Riverhead and driving on drugs, police said.
According to Suffolk County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael P. Sharkey, the Centereach teen was arrested Wednesday night just after 9 p.m. following a high speed pursuit on the LIE and William Floyd Parkway.
The teen was stopped by Deputy Sheriff Thomas Young at 9 p.m. after he was seen driving "at a high rate of speed" and heading west on the LIE, police said.

The teen fled, exiting onto the northbound William Floyd Parkway and entering Brookhaven National Laboratory, where he fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later, police said.
The teen was charged with possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing, driving while intoxicated-drugs, resisting arrest, and reckless driving, police said. He will be arraigned Thursday in Central Islip, police said.

The teen's name and a mug shot was not released due to his age, Sharkey said.
