Teens Steal Car, Jump Out While It's Moving — Vehicle Hits Pole: Police

The search is on for the third suspect, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two teens were arrested, and the search is on for a third suspect, after they stole a car and jumped out while it was moving; the vehicle then crashed into a telephone pole in Riverhead Tuesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, Alexander Roberson, 17, of Riverhead, and Zante Davender, 18, of Jamesport, were arrested on Tuesday at 2:37 p.m. on Raynor Avenue and charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.

The pair, along with a third suspect, initially attempted to evade a police officer and then jumped out of the moving vehicle; the stolen 2013 Hyundai then hit the telephone pole on Raynor Avenue, police said.

Officers located the two teens and arrested them; a K9 search for the third suspect was unsuccessful and he is currently being sought by police, authorities said.

Davender and Roberson were processed at the Riverhead Police Station and held for arraignment, police said.

Davender was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

Mug shots of the defendants were not released due to their age, police said.
