'Thank You, Riverhead Fire Department': New Lucharitos Saved

A fire broke out in the basement of the brand-new Little Lucharitos in Aquebogue early Monday.

AQUEBOGUE, NY — The swift response of the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department saved a brand-new business that opened this weekend in Aquebogue.

According to Marc LaMaina, owner of Little Lucharitos, located at 487 Main Road, there was a small fire in the basement in the early hours of Monday morning.

"We think it was a back draft in the vent, caused by the storm, that spread flames onto the water heater," LaMaina said. "The flame jumped and ignited a dry erase board."

He added that neither the new businesses' water heater nor its electrical system was to blame.

A grateful LaMaina turned to social media to thank the heroes who saved his new business.

"Closed today," a sign out front read. "Thank you, Riverhead Fire Department, for saving Little Lucharitos!"

But after working hard to put things back in order Monday, LaMaina assured that the new location will be back open for business right in time for its very first Taco Tuesday.
