Thief Smashes Gas Station's Door, Steals Cigarettes: Cops

The search is on for the cigarette-stealing culprit, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A thief smashed in the door of a Riverhead gas station and made off with cigarettes, police said.

According to Riverhead Police Department, the incident took place on Thursday at 1:22 a.m.; police responded to the Empire Gas Station, located on Old Country Road, after a report of a commercial alarm, police said.

The front door was found smashed in and numerous amounts of cigarettes stolen, police said.

A canvass of the area was performed but the culprit was not found, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded, police said.
