Thief Stealing Bagel Tries to Punch 7-Eleven Manager: Police

BREAKING: The man fled and was apprehended a short time later, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Police were called to the scene of an altercation over a bagel at 7-Eleven in Riverhead recently, authorities said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, Thomas Anderson, 36, of Riverhead, was arrested at 3:20 a.m. after he entered a 7-Eleven on Old Country Road and "pushed and attempted to punch" the night manager while stealing a bagel. He was charged with one count of third degree robbery, a non-violent felony, police said.

Police, who were called to the scene of the "disturbance," said the man fled the store and was arrested on Doctors Path a short time later.

He was taken to police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
