Toddler Found Unattended Near Railroad Tracks: Police

The child's father was charged after the toddler was found alone in the LIRR right of way, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A toddler was found unattended near the Long Island Rail Road tracks in Riverhead Saturday, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, at 6:43 p.m., a passing motorist notified police that the toddler was located in the LIRR train's right of way on Maple Avenue.

Responding officers took custody of the toddler and were able to locate the toddler's father a short time later; the toddler was turned over to the custody of the mother, police said.

Upon further investigation it was discovered the child left the residence while under the supervision of Celio Monroy- Huit, 48, of Riverhead; he was arrested, charged with endangering the welfare of a child, placed into custody, and transported to Riverhead Police headquarters for processing, police said.
