Veteran With Impaired Vision Missing: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — The search is on for a missing veteran with impaired vision, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department said they are asking for the public’s help to locate Harold W. Nelson, 69, who left a veterans home in Riverhead Thursday morning and was taken via bus to the Northport Veterans Administration offices for a scheduled appointment.
Nelson was in contact with staff until 7 p.m. that evening, but failed to return home to Riverhead and has not been heard from since, police said.

He is described as being 6’1” tall, 225 lbs., he wears glasses, has brown eyes and black braided hair, police said.
Nelson’s vision is impaired in one eye and he uses a walking stick to assist him, police said.

He was last seen wearing a white sweatshirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and he was carrying a leather satchel/backpack, police said.
