Window Broken In Attempted Gas Station Burglary: Cops

The culprit appeared to have tried to break into an ATM at the gas station, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A window was broken during an attempted burglary at a Riverhead gas station early Saturday, police said.

According to the Riverhead Police Department, at 4:56 a.m., a patrol officer discovered a broken east-side window at the Citgo Gas station on Osborne Avenue and CR 58.

A representative of the gas station was contacted and responded; it was determined that someone damaged the window while trying to gain entry into the gas station, police said.

After entering the gas station, someone attempted to break into an ATM machine located inside—but it did not appear that anything was removed, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was contacted and responded; the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential.
