Woman Busted With Heroin, Attempts to Flee on Foot: Police

The woman was nabbed on Route 58 in Riverhead, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY - A woman was busted Thursday night on Route 58 in Riverhead after she was caught with heroin, tried to flee on foot, and gave authorities a false name, police said.

According to New York State Police, Lori Baussman, 27, of Ridge was arrested at 11:30 p.m. when a trooper from the New York State Police Riverside barracks who was patrolling east on Route 58 stopped the gray Nissan she was riding in for speeding and tinted windows.

Police said while interviewing the driver, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

The driver stated that other occupants had smoked marijuana in the vehicle earlier in the night, police said.

A search of the vehicle and its passengers revealed that a rear passenger was found to possess used hypodermic needles, two glass pipes, and one metallic spoon containing a white residue believed to be heroin, police said.

While Baussman was being placed under arrest, she attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended without further incident, police said. She also provided the trooper with a false name to conceal the fact that she had active arrest warrants outstanding from Suffolk County, police said.

Baussmann was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, possession of a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor, resisting arrest, a midemeanor, and criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor, police said.

She was held for morning arraignment on Friday, police said.
