Woman Caught Driving While Intoxicated With 2 Kids In Vehicle: Police
The children in the car were 4 and 12 years old, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A Mastic woman was arrested Saturday night in Riverhead after she was caught driving while intoxicated with two children in her vehicle, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, at about 10:48 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle without an illuminated headlamp on Old Country Road.
Upon further investigation, the driver was observed to have bloodshot eyes and the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, police said.

Additionally, two juveniles, ages 4 and 12, were located within the vehicle, police said.
Officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests, which indicated that the driver was intoxicated, police said.

Felisa Elias Chaj was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI with a child-passenger less than 16, a felony under Leandra's law; operating a motor vehicle with a .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood; DWI; and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, police said.
Elias Chaj was processed and held for arraignment, police said.
