Woman Dies Of Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound: Cops

RIVERHEAD, NY — A woman was found dead of an apparent self-inflected gunshot wound to the head in Riverhead, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a 911 call came in at 2:49 p.m. Monday regarding a gunshot on East Main Street.

The 61-year old woman was found in the rear of her vehicle; the Riverhead Police Department's detective division, along with the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, was requested to the scene for further investigation and the death does not appear to be suspicious in nature, police said.
