Woman Hit by Her Own Car in Riverhead: Police
Police are trying to figure out who was driving the car at the time of accident early Sunday morning.

A Riverhead woman was hit by a car in Riverhead early Sunday morning, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police responded to 1156 West Main Street on a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car at about 12:25 a.m.
Upon police arrival, witnesses reported that the car involved had just left the scene with the 40-year-old victim, police said.

Witnesses indicated that after being hit, the woman was assisted into the car by a man who was driving the car, according to police.
The car, which is registered to the woman who was hit, then left the area just before police arrived, police said.

The victim and the car were found a short time later at Peconic Bay Medical Center, where she was being treated, police said.
She was later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated of non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
The car was impounded for further investigation.
Efforts to determine who the driver of the car was is ongoing.
