Woman Tasered After Slashing Another With Box Cutter: Police

She slashed the woman across the face and neck and also menaced a man before she was tasered; she was held in lieu of $25K bail, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY — A woman was slashed with a box cutter in Wading River Tuesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, the incident took place at 7:08 a.m. at the former Wading River Motel, now an emergency and transitional housing facility, located on Middle Country Road Road.

Janora Vanliew, 40, of Wading River, cut Jessica Carr, 39, of Wading River, across her face and neck with box cutters, police said. Vanliew also menaced Robert Miller, 27, of Wading River with the box cutters, police said.

When officers arrived, Vanliew still had the box cutters and ignored police, who then tasered her, authorities said.

Vanliew was placed under arrest and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps; Carr was also taken to PBMC by Wading River Ambulance, where she underwent emergency surgery, police said.

Vanliew was treated, released from the hospital, and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon; second-degree menacing; and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, police said.

Vanliew was arraigned and held in lieu of $25,000 bail, police said.
