Woman Tried To Pass Off Counterfeit Cash In Riverhead: Police

BREAKING: She tried to pay at Kmart with 6 counterfeit $20 bills, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — The search is on for a woman who tried to pay at a Riverhead Kmart with counterfeit cash, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Riverhead Town Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the woman, who attempted to purchase merchandise using six counterfeit $20 bills at Kmart, located at 605 Old Country Road, on May 6 at 3:37 p.m., police said.

When questioned by employees, the woman left the store, leaving the money behind; police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
