Young Mom Dies In Childbirth, Leaving Three Children Behind

RIVERHEAD, NY — The community is rallying to help a family faced with the unthinkable after a young mother died in childbirth.

"My sister lost her life giving birth to my newborn niece," said Kayla Caruso on a GoFundMe page she created, 'Funeral Service For Kristen.'"

"Her family is devastated. We are all crushed," Caruso wrote. "She left behind three beautiful kids, two young boys and her newborn Aeliyah Jewel."

Funds, she said, will be used for a funeral — "and for the three children she left behind. Thank you — anything will help."

Of her sister, Caruso added, "Kristen never asked for help and always put everyone else before herself. She would give the shirt off of her back and even if she didn’t have it to give, she would give."

Her loss has brought pain to the many who loved her sister, "the best sister I will ever have in my life — my role model," she said.

Caruso thanked the many who have donated and reflected on how the generosity would have touched her sister's beautiful heart.
