1 Injured When Retaining Wall Collapsed Onto Car On City Street

A large section of a wall and earth fell onto a parked car, prompting a multi-agency emergency response, and sending 1 to the hospital.

YONKERS, NY — A Westchester man is fortunate to be okay after a collapse sent debris cascading onto a city street.

Emergency crews responded to a wall collapse in southwest Yonkers on Wednesday morning.

The scary incident occurred at the corner of Landscape Avenue and Caryl Avenue at approximately 11:35 a.m.

A large section of a wall, measuring approximately 40 feet by 10 feet, fell onto a parked vehicle, according to fire officials.
The driver was inside when the collapse occurred, but was able to safely exit the vehicle before emergency units arrived on scene.

First responders provided immediate medical care to the driver, who was then taken to the hospital. Authorities said the injuries sustained were non-life-threatening.

Following the incident, first responders secured the area. They also conducted a search for any additional victims and assessed the structural stability of the remaining structure.

The Yonkers Fire Department and the Yonkers Police Department remained on site for several hours to manage the scene. The Yonkers Building Department was also present and is involved in the ongoing investigation.

The investigation into the cause of the wall collapse is continuing, according to officials.
