$110 Pancake Fraud Actually Credit Card Mix-Up

Reported ID theft is just a misunderstanding.

A 24-year-old Irvington resident reported that her credit card had been used on Jan. 19 in the amount of $110, police said.

Upon further investigation, police discovered discovered the charge was legitimate—the resident’s card showed a $110 purchase made at an IHOP restaurant, which the cardholder said was false.

It turns out the IHOP owner's significant other runs a dance studio—and the charge was made to IHOP rather than the studio.

The resident, confused by the oddly high charge at a breakfast chain, was unaware that the transaction had been processed up as such. During the course of the police investigation the matter was straightened out, and the resident was informed that there had been no ID theft after all.
