Alleged Identity Thief Arrested by State Police

The suspect is accused of cashing about $2,800 worth of fraudulent checks in Elmsford and Peekskill.

An 18-year-old Bronx man was arrested on felony identity theft and related charges Thursday in connection with his cashing about $2,800 in fraudulent checks at Chase Bank branches in Peekskill and Elmsford, according to state police.

Anthony A. Veggacado was arrested on several counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd, a class D Felony and Identity Theft 2nd Degree a class E Felony.

An investigation revealed that in February, Veggacado had cashed multiple counterfeit checks in those communities. State police troopers were assisted by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Town of Clarkstown Police Department.

Veggacado was arraigned before the Village of Elmsford Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear before the Village of Elmsford Court on June 10 at 9:30 a.m.
