YONKERS, NY — A chase involving a carjacking suspect left a Yonkers police officer injured.
Yonkers police are searching for the suspected carjacker, after a vehicle pursuit crossed into the Bronx, ended in a head-on crash, and led to an officer firing several shots.
At approximately 10:17 a.m. on Wednesday, Yonkers officers began pursuing the suspect vehicle from the carjacking. The pursuit took officers into the Bronx, where the suspect was traveling the wrong way on a Mosholu Parkway exit ramp, and collided head-on with a marked Yonkers Police Department vehicle, according to police.
After the crash, Yonkers officers attempted to apprehend the suspect. Police say the suspect then drove directly at a uniformed officer who was outside his vehicle. At that point, the officer fired several shots at the suspect, according to Yonkers police.
The suspect then fled the scene.
The officer involved suffered injuries related to the motor vehicle accident and was in stable condition, according to Yonkers police.
No officers were struck by gunfire and no civilian injuries were reported during the incident.
Officers from several jurisdictions were still attempting to locate the suspect, according to Yonkers police.
